The Truth is..

...Its cold here in the Western NC. I didnt post last week as i was still in the war zone known as finals week at Campbell University. I was looking forward to coming home to my favorite trails I have ever ridden ( which this year seems a bit more legit after traveling to West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and countless trails from Pisgah to Greenville here in NC) here in Wilkes only to be welcomed by a weekend of snow and temps that havent risen out of the 20's since I arrived. I made the decision on my last ride before finals started December 3rd that i really didnt want to ride on the road "for fun" with temps under 40 and not on the trails at much less. When I rode it was 45 and I thought Im not uncomfortably cold but im not any bot warm either. I will have to say that the Bellwether velocity jacket has exceeded my expectations for such a lightweight jacket.

So what to do with the temps to ride only coming maybe once a week? I already decided this winter would be my first semi real, unplanned, no real science backed, training camp. I really wanted to try to start laying down base miles at the first of november and have ridden a couple times a week but not the base mile training I was looking for. I vowed when I got home for christmas i would be on the bike everyday and actually put in some miles. So I went out and purchased this...

its a cyclops fluid 2 trainer that I stumbled across on craigslist and bought on a whim. The lady said she tried to ride it once but never really got on it. So it was hard to not jump on a $300 dollar trainer for less than a third of the price.

My plan is to get in between 10-15 hours a week fro the next month. This will take me till exactly a month before my first race. Im gonna try to back it off to 6-8 hours a week and mix in some more intense workouts. Thats the plan but as I said I have no idea what Im doing but this is my first semi attempt at "winning races in the winter".

We are looking at getting some sort of wintery precipitation tomorrow, but if we luck up and stay dry Im hoping to get out to the trails friday when the high is forcasted at 45.

Aside from the winter grind of training I am still trying to promote a race but honestly this is harder than I had planned for. The logistics of running around and getting the ok from so many people takes so much time. Honestly I am starting to wonder if there is time to get the interest. I mean we are still a month and a half out and this isnt a big event on anyones schedule. Its more of a come out and see how your winter training is going and have some fun so I dont guess to much notice is needed. However the time is now and its coming to the point of now or never. The fact is Campbell Cycling needs this race to raise money to be able to race in the ACCC this spring and without it we just arent going to be able to compete.

Enough whineing...hopefully a ride with some pics for next week.
