A hot one...

So I finally got back on the bike to head to the trail today. I decided I would take a somewhat briefer than usual ride today because Im hoping that my vice president is gonna head up Friday for a long ride.

That being said I decided on a 16 mile route that consisted of two laps around the BURN loop of the Dark Mountain trail system. For some reason I just couldnt get in the mood to ride today but I knew I needed the miles so about 2PM I finally decided to head out. When I stepped out the door the heat was overwhelming. Im not all about riding when it gets over 85 though I have done a couple rides this year around 90. Today when I got in the truck to head to the trails the temp gauge read 96. I almost turned around.

I decided I would try to push it pretty hard around the trail today and see where I stand as far as lap time because I have two races, the last of the southern off road series and the opener for the colligate mtb season, coming up in the fall. I could tell off the bat it was not going to be my fastest lap today but i could get a general idea. I started off a bit slow because of not warming up or anything but finished pretty strong in a time of 55 mins. Yeah I know not very fast but there was certainly room for a few mins to be cut with a good warm up and a bit more race motivation. Most people in the BURN 24 hour challenge I saw were doing between 50 and 55 min laps so it was solid but not fast by any means as the fastest lap recorded at the BURN was 32 mins.

After the first lap I had planned to make a second one at even a higher pace but the heat and lack of motivation was really weighing on me and so I decided to call it a day and just save some for friday. I felt pretty strong at the end and all in all Id call it a solid day.

On another positive note Iv lost 6 pounds in the past month in a half. Iv been struggling to get back down to my ideal race weight of 135. I didnt quit put on the freshmen 15 but I guess I put on the transfer 10 this year hitting 155 in January. I did get back down to 150 for the 6 Hours of Warrior Creek but ended up back at 153 by the first of May. So with that history of my weight struggle I can now say Im down to 147 and looking to get into the 130's again by the start of the colligate season.

Headed out for a round of golf in the morning with Justin at Rock Creek Golf Course.
