On to more important things though. So as I said Iv been getting into a bit more regular riding in the last few weeks. However Iv been getting lazy on the pictures. I just kinda have a hard time stopping long enough to take pics and now even more so because I'm trying to push it a bit harder now in my attempt at "training". All I can say is that Ill try and do better but look for my skilled photography more on the hiking than than the biking reports.
I finally got my seat post and all fixed after the LSAT and got back onto the trail at the end of last week. Took a trip up to the lake and rode the Over Mountain Victory Trail including the Shiner's Run loop. This totaled about 17 miles and I think I rode it in about 2 hours not bad but still slow. This was the first time in a few years that Iv rode Shiners run because the last time I rode it I was with a much more experienced rider who I literally pushed myself so hard to keep up with I threw up. So trying to put that behind me I decided to try the loop again for the added mileage and man what iv been missing. I have progressed quite a bit as a rider since the last time I rode that loop but now it just seems so perfect. It is a 5 mile extension if rode both ways and may be the best example of smooth flowy single track that I have ever been on. I dont know if its because of how Iv learned to keep my momentum and be smooth or my added fitness but I can keep it in a fairly high gear and just ride this loop. Anyway good shorter ride to get back on the bike and rediscovered a trail that will always be included from now on.
Then Monday i went for a very fun ride. Back up to the lake starting this time on Warrior Creek. I was joined for these first 13 miles by one of my riding buddies from the past who is getting married here in less than a month. Hes moved to Boston and so I was excited to get to ride with him (or anyone at this point iv been riding alone so much lately) but it was apparent that his lack of riding and my semi training onslaught lately had made a big difference from the days of years past and me following him. I easily pulled away from him but it didn't matter it was a fun day of catching up and the trail was in pretty great condition.
After that he left and I headed back over to the OVT and rode 17 more miles there. So all in all I totaled about 30 miles and around 4 hours with the first 13 taking the same time as the last 17. (And yes I made sure to rub that in to my old riding partner yesterday). Great ride, The OVT is quickly turning into my favorite trail. I love fast smooth flowing single track and i have found none better in NC.
Mixed in there i have got back on my interval training much better and feel in the best shape of the year so far. Hopefully I can get back to the races soon.
By the way Im headed further into western NC first thing in the morning with my old buddies to our secret crappie lake in the hills. (Yes thats all the details about the location I will give) So look for that report tomorrow night.
