I wanted to drop a little weight on my road bike being a bit of a weight weenie. I started with getting some Formula Xero XR-1 wheels which weigh in a bit over 1500 grams and should drop over 300g from my current set.
I followed that up with some Vredestein Forrezza superlight tires that come in at 180g and Michelin Ultralight tubes at 80g. This will be my race day only setup though the wheels may see some non race action.
I also picked up a sette evo saddle coming in at a bit over 200g as well as some carbon bottle holders and spacers. Finally I got two camelbak podium insulated bottles to replace the numerous ones Iv lost this season.
In the following days Im gonna try and pick up some Fizik bar tape, short 90mm stem and an ultegra cassette to put on the race wheels. Iv been struggling with the idea of a shorter stem for awhile because I want to lower the bars a spacer and I already feel like Im stretched out to the max. I dont know if its just not being use to the feeling of a road bike or what but i think im gonna go for it.
With all the new stuff Iv still been hitting the trainer hard. Honestly I bought that trainer on a whim and it was without a doubt the best purchase Iv ever made to further my cycling aside from the bike itself. I am putting in a couple hours everyday rather than 3-4 hours once a week like I did this summer. I still may be slow but at least this season I know when I get on the line I put in a good base and worked hard in the offseason. Well see if it pays off.
Aside from new parts and hours upon hours on the trainer not much going on in the world of cycling. I am however still working on our race for the end of january but it has been one problem after another to the point I dont even want to talk about it.
Time to gear up for the new year...
