The biggest downer from the past week is that we are going to have to call off The Bricks at Campbell Criterium. There really isnt one reason in particular that it has come to this more of the fact culmination of the fact that it is more than our little club can take on in the small amount of time we had between when we decided we would do this race and the only date we could hold the race. It was a fun process and I definitely plan to make it happen next year. The rest of the problems have arose from the fact that this was suppose to be one of our big fundraisers this year and now we arnt going to be in very good financial condition going into road season.
Ohh I almost forgot another disappointment in my cycling world. When laying out my season for 2011 I was reallying lookin forward to my first go at the Burn 24. Now Im not saying im giving it up I just saw that the very next weekend happens to be the tour de cure which consist of two days and 200 miles. It is a charity ride so its not like ill be racing but that just seems like alot. Also Iv already accepted donations four the tour so its locked in. Guess well just have to see.
However life goes on and I did get some of the last part I needed for my road bike today. I got a new Sette Evo 90mm stem and some Fizik microtex bar tape.
I went ahead and put the stem on this evnin and I think its going to really help the fit of my bike out. It also weighs in at about 115g according to my Chinese scale which is insanely light for the 20 bucks i paid for it on pricepoint. I guess well have to see how well it holds up. I also put on the carbon spacers i picked up a while back. I honestly didnt think there would be much of a weight difference but to my surprise they were almost 20 grams lighter than the aluminum ones. That brought my weight loss up to around 40 grams between the spacers and stem swap.
The bar tape I got was suppose to be bright blue to match the blue 8 on the CAAD 8 logo. However, it turned out to be light blue and therefor not even close to the right color. Sorry but this is not acceptable. I guess it will have to go back.
Now all I need is a new cassette for the race wheelset and Ill be done with this road bike.
I wont give a full year in review type summary but it is the first post of the year so I guess a little look back and look ahead is warranted.
Last year was the first year I have ever taken cycling any type of seriously and my first year of racing. I had been riding for about 3 years before that but only as another hobby that I did with buddies a couple times a month. Last winter however I decided I wanted to take it to the next level after I decided to start the cycling club. It was something I had thought about but the motivation from the club got me to sign up for my first race at the 6 hours of Warrior Creek. I really did little to train and just showed up. After that I was hooked. I finished horribly and Rich Dillen had to save my buddy on the trail but it was awesome. After that I did a few XC races in Charlotte and then the ACCC mountain bike season. I didnt do very well at any race but it did provide me motivation for this coming year.
After getting my feet wet this year I kinda know what Im up against. So the past month I have been on the bike trainer every day laying in the base miles. Now this is my first try at any real training so Im not logging 20 hours a week but I am hitting 10 which is a start. I really have no clue what Im doing but I figure just riding alot is going to make a difference. I do have higher hopes for this year and intend to put in some hard training to give it a real shot instead of just showing up which is more or less what i did this past season.
Back to the Campbell next week...
